Class Instructions

All classes listed will take place in the Bellingham Classrooms unless otherwise noted or notified.

Please commit to classes as soon as possible. Our volunteer instructors spend a great deal of time preparing for the class and need to know the class size as they prepare materials. 

There is no charge/cost involved in Disaster training.

Classes will start on time....please be prompt!

You are always welcome to bring your breakfast, lunch or dinner or snacks and drinks to our classes.

DISASTER SERVICES TRAINING COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance Basic Course
An introduction to the Client Casework activity, this class teaches the skills and tools needed to conduct an effective client interview. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission.

Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers to establish collaborative relationships that contribute to coordinated disaster response and help to ensure effective service delivery. This course will also prepare participants to begin conducting liaison activities in a chapter and establish a foundation upon which they can build toward a career as a liaison in the Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) System. Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission.

Community Disaster Education Instructor Specialty Course Basic Course
The purpose of the instructor specialty course is to prepare instructors to teach Community Disaster Education workshops ensuring uniform, quality activities consistent with the goals and directions American Red Cross Community Disaster Education. This course provides opportunities for practice teaching with direct supervision in a classroom setting, and opportunities to receive evaluation and support in development of instructional skills, as well as the benefit of the experiences and skills of other participants in a learning environment. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission.

Disaster Frontline Supervisor Basic Course
This course prepares participants to function effectively as Disaster Services supervisors. Prerequisites: The basic or intermediate disaster course for the activity in which the applicant expects to become a supervisor. Experience as a worker in the activity in which the applicant expects to become a supervisor.

Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers who will be assigned to government and emergency settings to work collaboratively with Red Cross partners, helping to ensure a coordinated response that result in effective service delivery. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission, Collaborating to Ensure Effective Service Delivery.

ERV: Ready, Set, Roll Basic Course
Required for driving the Emergency Response Vehicle (ERV) on local and national disaster operations. Self-study followed by some classroom instruction and driving practice. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission, Mass Care Overview, valid driver's license with clean driving record, capacity to lift 50 pounds, and minimum age 21.

Financial & Statistical Information Management Basic Course
The purpose of this basic-level Disaster Services course is to prepare Red Cross volunteers and employees to perform the tasks of a Financial & Statistical Information Management (FSI) service associate on a disaster relief operation. Also available as a self-study. Prerequisites: Fulfilling Our Mission, Client Casework: Providing Emergency Assistance.

Foundations of Disaster Mental Health Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to prepare licensed mental health professionals to provide for and respond to the psychological needs of people across the continuum of disaster preparedness, response and recovery. Prerequisite: current state license. Fulfilling Our Mission and Client Casework are recommended.

Fulfilling Our Mission Basic Course
The purpose of this course is to allow participants to assess how their skills will help the community. The class looks at the mission of the Red Cross and the fundamental principals. It also addresses the expected behaviors of volunteers and staff while carrying out the mission. Prerequisite: Introduction to Disaster Services is recommended.

Fundamentals of Disaster Assessment Basic Course
Prepares American Red Cross workers to obtain and report disaster assessment information from a variety of sources, and become familiar with how disaster assessment information supports management and service delivery decisions. This is a blended learning class with a portion online and a portion in the classroom Prerequisite: Fulfilling Our Mission
